This summer I am kicking off my first summer internship program to involve youth in the creation and production of this new musical. I am aiming for 5-10 youth with a passion for singing and theater to meet for about 5 hours a day in my Oakland home to bring select scenes of the musical to life. We will perform our work for parents, families, neighbors and the Oakland Bahai community at a July 10th performance in my back yard. This a completely bare bones project with much of the set design, costumes and staging requiring us to use our imaginations and narration skills to effectively enact the scenes.
The musical is all about the religious history of the Baha'i faith so historical research and study is a fundamental part of the program. The program is open to people of all backgrounds and faiths and aims to be inclusive in every way possible. As part of the Oakland high school internship programs this is geared toward high school students but interest folks young and older are welcomed to join as well. Further any interested collaborating artists, theater folk and volunteers should definitely reach out.
